There are many types of accountants but they are all typically responsible for recording and analyzing financial information for their employers, examining records to find waste or fraud, and reviewing operations for efficiency, accuracy and effectiveness.
Qualifications: Accountants are self-starters, detail-oriented and possess a high degree of integrity. In addition accountants look for challenging, new experiences and have strong math and organizational skills.
Education: In addition to a high school diploma, most employers require a 2-year or 4-year degree in accounting or related field and some require a post-Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business. Upon completion of 4-year or advanced degree you can take an exam to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Some businesses provide on-the-job training for those with high school diplomas or the equivalent.
